Who we are:
Water for Christmas is a grass roots movement bringing both awareness and real "on the ground" change to Africa's water crisis.
Stated simply, we see no reason for 4500 mothers to bury children every day for lack of clean water. And in most places, clean water flows just below the surface. With a little help, local African communities can tap into safe, clean water. Helping provide clean water and basic sanitation is thus one of the first and simplest steps to ending water-borne diseases and their accompanying cycle of poverty in the world.
All money donated here goes directly to charity: water who in turn uses 100% of their donations to drill for fresh water. We'd love for you to partner with us by making donations directly to our charity: water account using the links above. All donations are tax-deductible.
"There are two primary choices in life; to accept conditions as they exist, or accept the responsibility for changing them." (Denis Waitley)
Why water?
At Water for Christmas, we've allowed the existing conditions to break our hearts and spur us to action.
We want to: join others in solving the world's water crisis, where 1.1 billion people on the planet don't have access to safe, clean drinking water.
We don't want to: accept the conditions where unclean water and the lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of all sickness and disease and kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war.
We are convinced that: 4500 children should not die every day from the lack of access to clean water.
From it's inception in November 2008, Water For Christmas has raised over $300,000--for the building of wells in the most desperate areas of need in Liberia, West Africa. Hundreds of people discovered the joy of getting and giving Water For Christmas
To carry the message of Water For Christmas throughout all seasons, '12 People' was developed as our monthly giving program. People from around the country have committed to $20 a month in an effort to raise our voices in support of clean water. You can join us by signing up here for the recurring giving option.
As Margaret Mead argued : “Never underestimate the ability of a small group of committed individuals to change the world; Indeed, they’re the only ones who ever have.”
Again, all money goes through and directly to charity: water -- a trusted and highly rated non-profit organization which moves quickly and efficiently to build sustainable clean water projects around the world. Our particular partnership directly contributes to the building and maintenance of clean water wells in Liberia, West Africa.
